The Ethnicity and Geographical Distribution of Shanrong and Donghu
Si Fang Xian Ling(《四方献令》)and Wang Hui Jie(《王会解》)excerpted from Yi Zhou Shu(《逸周书》)are important to research on the ethnicity of Shanrong(山戎)and Donghu(东胡).But the Shan-rong and Donghu recorded in above documents does not explain the formative time of them.This paper finds that Donghu and Shanrong were different groups from Shang and Zhou Dynasties to the Spring and Autumn Period,although they are the same part of Rong ethnic.Shanrong settled in the northern Hebei that located in the north of Yan State(燕国)and the south of Yanshan Mountain(燕山).Donghu settled in west-ern Liaoning that located in the north of Yanshan Mountain.In particular,the Xila Mulun River Valley was the principal settlement of Donghu groups.
