Changes of the Lower Yellow River Course in the Pre-Qin Period:Discussing with Prof.Yuan Guangkuo
The lower Yellow River course changes in the Pre-Qin period are closely related to the origin and development of Chinese historical civilization that has interdisciplinary significance in academia as well.Esteemed scholars have conducted profound research and constructed the fundamental framework of the changes in the Yellow River course of the Pre-Qin period, which has become academic classic.Prof.Yuan Guangkuo utilized newly discovered archaeological sites and other evidences and provided a new inter-pretation of this issue. He believed that the Yellow River course did not change significantly in the Pre-Qin period, and the Yellow River course recorded in Yugong that derived from the book of Shangshu(《尚书·禹贡》)was same as the records in the book of Hanshu(《汉书》).However, compared with previous studies,Prof.Yuan's paper did not fully consider with the natural attributes and changing patterns of the lower Yel-low River course, and the results was not entirely consistent with historical records.Therefore,Prof.Yuan's paper cannot entirely overturn earlier scholars'research. But it enlightens following scholars to focus on the significant impact of the lower Yellow River course changes on the Chinese ancient civilization process.Aca-demic research should shift to more refined subsequently, suggesting that the academic community should engage in interdisciplinary dialogue and further discussed on this issue. The Yellow River research would be comprehensive development with multiple disciplines, broad perspectives and deep details in the future.
