Old Course of Pijiang River in Chengdu City during the Tang and Song Dynasties
In 876 AD,in order to fit with the construction of Chengdu Luocheng(成都罗城),the Piji-ang River was transformed into a new waterway system.Starting from Mizaoyan(糜枣堰),the Pijiang River was divided into three waterways, including the Qingyuan River, the old Pijiang River that located in-side and outside of the Luocheng,as well as the Southwest canal.Above three waterways converged at Heji-angting(合江亭).The old Pijiang River course during the Tang and Song dynasties was changed as canals, providing water resources for Chengdu city and the northwest suburbs. The starting point of Old Pijiang River course was about 10 Li from the northwest of the Daximen(大西门)in Luocheng.Combined with the verified locations of the Pijiang River course and old waterway during the Tang and Song Dynasties, the old Pijiang River course could be reconstructed to the maximum extent.
