The Xiawanggang site was found at the second terrace of the right bank of the lower reaches of Dan River in Xichuan county,Henan province.Trial excavations have found late Paleolithic remains represented by simple core-flake technology. It is the only Palaeolithic site excavated on the second terrace of Dan River so far, which enriches the archaeological discoveries of Palaeolithic remains in the lower terraces of the region and extends the archaeological significance of the Xiawanggang site. The survey found that the cultural characteristics of the stone artifacts differed from those in the trial excavations, which mainly contained flake tools and blade tools with flint as the main raw material. It also found a few stone disk devices, net weights, notched stone knife and a small amount of ground stone tools and blanks of the Neolithic period. The remains of stone artifacts found during the survey mainly belong to the Neolithic Yangshao culture, and they provide new evidence and inspiration for the understanding of the stone artifacts production and livelihood patterns in the Neolithic age in the Dan River Basin area.
