In January 2022,the School of Archaeology and Museology of Sichuan University along with other academic institutions, conducted test excavations at the Zhujiaba and Zhangjiaba sites in Ziyang. The artifacts unearthed at the Zhujiaba site include pottery vessels such as jars, pots, zun, and flat-bottomed vessels,as well as stone tools including axes, arrowheads, adzes, chisels, knives, scrapers, endscrapers, and pointed tools, and are mainly dated to the Baodun Culture Period Ⅱ.At the Zhangjiaba site, pottery vessels such as jars, pots and pointed-bottom cups were discovered along with a small number of stone slabs. The site is dated to the Eastern Zhou period. The two sites are the first Neolithic to Shang-Zhou period sites in the middle and lower reaches of the Tuojiang River which fill in the missing gaps in the local cultural sequence. Both have great academic significance for the study of cultural exchanges between Chengdu Plain and the Three Gorges area, and of the Pre-Qin culture expansion in the Chengdu Plain.
