Guo Moruo's Xin Hua Song(Ode to New China,新华颂)was published in the People's Daily on October 1,1949 and is the first hymn dedicated to the People's Republic of China.Although it is generally believed to have been written on September 20,1949,earlier versions suggest that it was originally created to answer the call for writing lyrics for the national anthem.According to manuscripts and memoirs, the writing of the hymn should not be later than August 20,1949.From the perspective of historical context, the early versions are interpreted, and the historical and ideological factors of their literary expressions are analysed to reveal the political and cultural changes reflected in the evolution of this hymn.
