Synergistic Fumigant Activity Constitutents of Nepeta cataria and Amomum villosum Essential Oils Against Sitophilus oryzae
The fumigant activity of 20 essential oils and their mixtures against Sitophilus oryzae was examined. The essential oils were extracted by steam distillation, and the active components of the two essential oils with the best fumigation activity and synergistic activity were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and compound elimination assay methods. The results indicated that the essential oils from N.cataria exhibited the strongest fumi-gant toxicity against S.oryzae with the LC50 value of 13.27 mg/L.when the remaining oils were mixed with N.catar-ia oil,A.villosum essential oil showed the greatest promoting effect, and the co-toxicity factor was 107.14.Pule-gone and(-)-terpinen-4-ol were determined as the major active constituents for the fumigant activity of N.ca-taria and A.villosum essential oils. The LC50 values were 7.34 and 8.35 mg/L,respectively,better than that of the nepeta cataria essential oil.Pulegone and(-)-terpinen-4-ol were mixed according to the mass ratio 61.13∶6.13 and 1∶1,with LC50 values of 5.91 and 8.29 mg/L,respectively.The fumigation activity of the mixture against S.oryzae increased with the increase of the proportion of pulegone. The experiment confirmed that pulegone and(-)-terpinen-4-ol as botanical insecticides have the potential to control S.oryzae.
