Tea saponin is a secondary metabolite in tea seeds, mainly from tea seed cake, and it is a by-prod-uct of oil extraction from oil tea seeds. In this paper, the bacteriostatic properties against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the mechanism of bacteriostasis were investigated, and the development and utilization of tea saponin,a by-product of oil tea,was expanded. The bacteriostatic performance of tea saponin was evaluated by determining the di-ameter of the circle of inhibition, the minimum inhibitory concentration and the minimum bactericidal concentration of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and then the bacteriostatic mechanism was investigated by detecting the integrity of the cell membrane of the bacterial cell wall as well as the metabolic activity, etc. The experimental results indicated that tea saponin was effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The experimental results indicated that the inhibi-tion circle of tea saponin against Pseudomonas aeruginosa reached(23.34±1.52)mm,the MIC against Pseudo-monas aeruginosa was 15.63 mg/mL,and the MBC was 31.25 mg/mL.Bacteriostatic mechanism experiments have confirmed that tea saponin can destroy the integrity of the cell membrane, cell wall, change its permeability, cause the leakage of intracellular substances(proteins, nucleic acids and ions, etc.);reduce the activity of AT-Pase and SDH;reduce the hydrophobicity of the bacterial surface;tea saponin can also be inhibited by inhibiting the bacterial swimming, swarming, twitching, inhibition of the formation of the biofilm, and play a role in inhibi-tion of the bacteria as well as the effect of toxicity reduction.Tea saponin could interact with DNA and cause DNA damage.
