Analysis of Kernel-Related Traits and Protein Content of Maize Inbred Lines
To evaluate the genetic variation of kernel-related traits and total protein content in maize inbred lines, excellent maize inbred lines were screened. The variation analysis, correlation analysis and cluster analysis of kernel-related traits and total protein content were carried out using 298 maize inbred lines. The results indicated that total protein content varied from 3.04%to 14.10%,with an average of 9.03%,the coefficient variation of total protein content and kernel-related traits ranged from 9.13%to 26.05%.Total protein content was significantly negatively correlated with total starch content, amylose content, kernel length and 100-kernel weight, and it was significantly positively correlated with total soluble sugar, crude fat and reducing sugar. There were significant differ-ences in total protein content and kernel length among different subgroups. The 298 maize inbred lines were divided into six groups by cluster analysis.Group Ⅳ containing 5 maize inbred lines(CIMBL156,CIMBL83,HSBN,S37 and CIMBL120)had better performance in total protein content and kernel-related traits.
