Research on Distribution Characteristics of Wind Shear Occurrence in Airports in Western China
In recent years, under the influence of abnormal global weather changes, wind shear encounter incidents have been frequently reported at airports in western China. To help the industry better understand the occurrence rules and distribution characteristics of wind shear, this paper utilizes the QAR data of flights with wind shear warning triggering provided by the Aviation Science Academy of China to conduct statistics on the types, models, warning triggering heights and temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of wind shear events in the past two years. The reasons for the high incidence of wind shear warnings at several typical airports are analyzed from the perspective of geography and climate. It is found that wind shear occurs with high incidence at airports in Lanzhou,Yinchuan and Xining in spring and summer from April to June.More than 90%of the wind shear occurs at low altitudes below 200 feet, requiring pilots to take immediate measures. From the distribution of wind shear types and stages, more than 60%occurs at the approach and landing phase and the RWS type is the main type. The take-off and climb phase accounts for less than 40%and the PWS type is the main type, indicating that the effectiveness of airborne weather radar for low-altitude wind shear detection needs to be im-proved.
