Evaluation of short-term smoking cessation effect of an personalized smoking cessation intervention APP and analysis of influencing factors
Objective To assess the smoking behaviour change of smokers after the intervention of using the personalized smoking cessation intervention APP("Helping You Quit"),explore the factors influencing smoking cessation behaviour, and provide the reference for the APP expansion scope in future. Methods The randomized controlled trial design was used to recruit 1 278 current smokers with quit smoking willingness through online recruitment from August to September in 2023 as the subjects. The subjects were randomly divided into the control group(n=639)and the intervention group(n=639),but there were only 517 subjects in the intervention group after excluding the subjects without downloading the app successfully. The investigation was performed with questionnaire online."Helping You Quit"APP and"Electronic self-help smoking cessation manual"were used in intervention group, only"Electronic self-help smoking cessation manual"was used in controlled group. After the intervention for one month, the smoking cessation was assessed. The x2 test and log-binomial regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The used software was SAS 9.4.Results The results of intentionality(ITT)analysis showed that after intervention for one month, the smoking cessation rate, the attempted cessation rate and the smoking reduction rate of the subjects in the intervention group were 18.76%,57.83%and 13.35%,which were significantly higher than those(10.49%,46.32%and 6.73%)in controlled group,P<0.01.The results of log-binomial regression analysis showed that the smoking cessation effect in the subjects of the intervention group was relatively better(RR=1.773,95%C/:1.336~2.369);the smoking cessation effects in the non-working staff(RR=0.655,95%CI:0.426-0.957),the subjects with overweight or obese(RR=0.663,95%CI:0.499-0.885),and the subjects with moderate nicotine dependence(RR=0.689,95%CI:0.472-0.980)and severe nicotine dependence(RR=0.599,95%CI:0.425-0.832)were relatively worse. Conclusion"Help You Quit"APP can significantly increase the quit attempts and short-term quit rates of smokers, and it should be considered as a supplement of current smoking cessation services.
