Severe tobacco dependence status and influencing factors among male daily smokers ≥ 40 years old in Fujian Province
Objective To understand the level of tobacco dependence and influencing factors in male daily smokers ≥40 years old of Fujian Province, and provide the scientific basis for administrative departments to formulate tobacco control strategies. Methods The data were from"chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)surveillance in Fujian from 2019 to 2020".The multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method was used to select 5 486 residents ≥40 years old as the subjects, the investigation was performed with questionnaire(smoking and tobacco dependence)in 9 counties and districts.A total of 1 429 daily smokers in males were included in the analysis.Rao-Scottx2test and logistic regression based on complex sampling were used to compare the differences between groups and analyze the change trend of grade variables, the multivariate survey logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the influencing factors for heavy tobacco dependence. The used software was SAS 9.3.Results The heavy tobacco dependence rate of daily smokers in males was 36.74%(95%CI:31.10%-42.38%).The results of multiple logistic regression analysis showed that low age group(as compared with ≥80 years old group,40-<60 years old group OR value was 2.58 and 60-<80 years old group OR value was 3.11),smoking duration ≥ 10 years(OR=2.12),chronic respiratory symptoms(OR=1.67)were related to the higher risk of heavy tobacco dependence(P<0.01);the smoking onset age ≥18 years old(OR=0.56),office workers and technical personnels(OR=0.40)and ≥ high school education level(OR=0.53)were related to the lower risk of heavy tobacco dependence in ≥40 years old male smokers(P<0.O1).Conclusion The tobacco dependence level in male daily smokers ≥40 years old in Fujian Province is relatively high.It should conduct the prevention and control of tobacco exposure targeted at residents with low education level, adolescents, occupation for agriculture and chronic respiratory symptoms.
