The veal production is a successful example to utilize the male calves of dairy cows to produce meat in the Netherlands. The success is ascribed to all aspects of the whole production chain, including the calf rearing pattern of company plus farmers; slaughtering and processing with the traceable system of Safety Guard from farmers to tables; the highly socialized service system from feeding, reproduction, breeding, disease diagnosis and treatment; technical training and extension; high-grade environment protection requirement in facilities and dung treatment; the government and bank measures to support cattle industry, etc. When the country is suffering a shortage of beef, it is a good strategy to make use of the male calves like the Netherlands.
