Effects of Planting Density on Main Agronomic Traits,Yields and Quality of Silage Maize in Central Yunnan
To probe the effects of planting densities on the yield and agronomic traits of silage corn, the experiment of three densities(those were planting densities of 6 plants/m2,9 plants/m2 and 12 plants/m2)was carried out with Quchen No.9 used as the experimental material in the central of Yunnan province. The results show ed that the dry matter yield of high-density silage corn was 12.3%higher than that of low-density,and number of nodes, leaves and dead leaves of high-density single plant were increased at 9.98%(P<0.05),2.78%(P>0.05)and 126.92%(P<0.01),respectively,higher than those of low-density corn. However, the plant height, basal stem width, ear leaf area and leaf dry weight of individual maize with high-density were reduced by 15.12%(P>0.05),38.80%(P<0.01),16.38%(P<0.05),and 26.88%~38.79%(P<0.05),respectively,lower than those of low-density maize. In terms of nutrient composition, the crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber and lignin of silage maize with high-density were decreased by 1.7%,21.51%,22.14%and 56.79%,respectively,lower than those of maize with low density. It is indicated that increasing planting density can effectively increase the dry matter yield of silage maize population per unit area, increase the number of leaves and node number of single plant, but reduce the height, the area of ear leaves, the dry weight of different leaves and the base stem width of single plant, and effectively reduce the contents of neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber and acid lignin. It is suggested that changes of agronomic characters of individual plant and nutrient contents of population maize could be paid attention in planting silage maize, and high yield and quality of silage maize per unit area were obtained by reasonable close planting to avoid yield reduction by plant lodging and so on.
