Evaluation of Antibacterial Activity and Therapeutic Effect of Chinese Medicinal Prescription against Main Pathogens Causing Mastitis in Dairy Cows
To investigate the antibacterial effect, clinical efficacy and immune function of Chinese herbal compound preparations against the pathogenic bacteria of mastitis in dairy cows. The trial was based on the theory of TCM identification, and 15 herbs, including Dandelion,Ziziphiopoglossum,Honeysuckle and Silphium, were used to formulate 4 prescriptions,Staphylococcus aureus,Streptococcus agalactiae and Escherichia coli isolated from clinical dairy cows with mastitis were used as subjects for in vitro inhibition tests.Thirty infected cows were divided into three groups, which were high-dose group(40 mL),medium-dose group(30 mL)and low-dose group(20 mL),and the healthy group was used as control, the milk somatic cell count, serum ALT,AST,LDH,SA,lymphocyte stimulation index(SI)and neutrophil phagocytosis were measured. The results showed that compound Ⅳ had a MIC value of 31.5mg/mL to against Staphylococcus aureus,Streptococcus agalactiae and E.coli, which was more effective than compound Ⅰ,Ⅱ and Ⅲ.Clinical treatment trials showed that the effective rates of the three dose groups, low, medium and high,on clinical dairy cows with mastitis were classified as 78.6,85.7 and 93.3,with cure rates of 71.4%,78.6%and 80%respectively;the somatic cell count, lactase and albumin were highly significantly lower in the treated groups after 7 days of administration compared to the pre-treatment period(P<0.01),with the high and medium dose groups being significantly lower than the low dose group(P<0.05);the lymphocyte stimulation index and neutrophil phagocytosis rate in the treatment group were significantly higher than before treatment, and the neutrophil phagocytosis rate in the high dose group was significantly higher than that in the low dose group(P<0.01)and significantly higher than that in the medium dose group(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference compared with the healthy group. The antimicrobial activity of the herbal formula Ⅳ on the Staphylococcus aureus,Streptococcus agalactiae and E.coli of mastitis in dairy cows was well and the clinical efficacy was significant;it could repair the mammary epithelial cells, reduce the somatic cell count and improve the immune function of the affected cows.
