Effects of Bacillus Subtilis on Diarrhea Rate,Growth Performance and Blood Metabolic Parameters of Lactating Calves
The purpose of this experiment was to evaluate the effects of different doses of Bacillus subtilis on diarrhea rate, growth performance and blood metabolic parameters of lactating calves, and to provide reference for the scientific utilization of Bacillus subtilis in calf production.Forty-eight 4-day-old Holstein female calves with similar body weight(39.44±1.58kg)and good health were selected and randomly divided into 3 groups with 16 calves in each group.Bacillus subtilis(≥5×109CFU/g)0g/d/head(control group),6g/d/head and 12g/d/head were added to the milk for 40 days. The results showed that the experimental treatment did not affect the average daily gain of calves(P>0.05);compared with the control group, the diarrhea rate of calves supplemented with 6g and 12g Bacillus subtilis in milk was significantly reduced(P<0.01);The serum total protein content of calves in 6g group was significantly higher than that in control group and 12g group(P<0.05),and the serum urea nitrogen content of calves in 12g group was significantly lower than that in control group(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the activity of glutathione peroxidase in serum of calves in 6g group was significantly increased, and the activity of superoxide dismutase in 6g group and 12g group was significantly increased(P<0.05).To sum up,feeding lactating calves with Bacillus subtilis can reduce the diarrhea rate of calves and improve the antioxidant capacity of the body. The effect of adding 12g/d/head is better.
