Perioperative management and future of bypass surgery from the research of the carotid and middle cerebral artery occlusion surgery study(CMOSS)
The efficacy of bypass surgery in the treatment of symptomatic carotid artery and middle cerebral artery occlusion has been controversial.The Chinese-sponsored study of the carotid and middle cerebral artery occlusion surgery study(CMOSS)ultimately yielded negative results.However,this does not negate the therapeutic value of bypass surgery for patients with symptomatic vascular occlusion.It indicates the need for further in-depth study.This article analyzes the results of the CMOSS study,summarizes knowledge related to perioperative management,and introduces the CMOSS2 study which will be carried out in the next.It also discusses the future of bypass surgery,with the aim of providing a reference for future clinical research and practice.
