Research progress on the characteristics of thrombosis in acute ischemic stroke
Embolism and thrombosis in situ are the major causes of ischemic stroke. However, due to the difficulty in obtaining human thrombus tissue, limited data exist on composition of arterial thrombi in acute ischemic stroke. The rapid development of endovascular procedures has provided new opportunities to study detailed characteristics of thrombi. In this review,we provided a comprehensive overview of the lessons learned by examining stroke thrombus composition after endovascular thrombectomy from five aspects of pathology, histopathology, omics, mechanics, exogenous substances, which may help to understand the value in diagnosis, classification and treatment. The impact on functional outcomes after the acute ischemic stroke with mechanical thrombectomy was also explored.
