Slaughter Performance and Organ Development of Shanbei White Cashmere Goat
The experiment was conducted to study the slaughter performance and organ development in different month-old Shanbei white cashmere goats,to provide a theoretic basis for evaluating meat productivity and clarifying the optimal month of slaughter. The wether goats at 6,8,10 and 12 months old under farmer feeding conditions were used for slaughter test. The results were as follows.(1) Dressing percentage and meat percentage of the 10-month-old goats was the highest.Slaughter performance indexes increased with age except dressing percentage, meat percentage and visceral fat percentage.(2) Rumen weight of the 10-and 12-month old wethers was significantly higher than that of 6-and 8-month-old goats (P<0.05),while other gastrointestinal tract weight did not have significant difference (P>0.05).Ratio of gastrointestinal tract weight to live weight of the goat at 6 months old was the highest.Ratio of rumen weight to complex stomach weight was the highest, followed by ratio of abomasum weight to complex stomach weight, and ratio of omasum weight to complex stomach weight was the smallest. But the ratios had no significant difference among different months (P>0.05).(3) Visceral organ weight increased with age,and showed significant or extremely significant differences among different months.Ratio of kidney weight to live weight in wether goats at 10 and 12 months old was significantly smaller than that at 6 months old (P<0.05),while other visceral organs did not show significant differences among different months (P>0.05).In summary, the wether had fast growth and good meat performance at 10 and 12 months old.So we conclude that the wether goats at 10 months old can enter the market.
