The Remote Delivery of Social Work Services in Rural Areas and Its Complex Adaptation——A Case Study of the Neo-endogenous Development Project in Xundian County,Yunnan
In addressing the local development challenges of weak internal resources and limited service accessibility in rural areas,the re-shaping of social services mobility constitutes the essence of rural long-distance social work. The profession of rural social work,the rural-client system,and the service organi-zation system are intertwined,jointly forming the complex environment in which rural long-distance social work operates. Based on a case study of the Neo-endogenous Development Project in Xundian County,this article provides a comprehensive overview of the Chinese experience regarding how rural practitioners overcome geographic-social-cultural distances and provide trans-regional rural social services. By shifting from passive intervention in local issues to proactive community capacity building,from isolated local service to network-based relational support,and from targeted interventions with fixed objectives to open-ended trial-and-error adjustments,rural long-distance social workers constantly work with complexity through adaptive strategies.
