The Integration of Gender/Women and the Environment——The Evolution of Global Policy Agenda and Its Implications for China
Gender equality and environment protection are two key topics in contemporary global govern-ance. In the past several decades,to strive for the intersection of women/gender and the environment has gradually become a global consensus. However by now,no one has systematically examined the changes in the global policy framework at home and abroad. This paper aims to outline the evolution of global poli-cy agenda on the integration of women/gender and environment and its implications for China. In the past half-century,there were roughly three policy breakthroughs:from no inter-linkage to loose linkage of women and environment in the 1970s and 1980s;environment policy and women's policy began to pay at-tention to each other in the 1990s;bothwere integrated in one international blueprint at the turn of the 21st century, reaching a peak with the release of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This system-atic review has implication not only for increasing awareness and understanding, but also for a policy ref-erence of creating a win-win situation of gender equality and environmental sustainability in China.
