Practical Reform of Academic English Curriculum for Non-English Major Postgraduates in the Context of"Four New"Initiatives:A Case Study of Huazhong Agricultural University
The"Four New"initiatives,encompassing the Emerging Engineering Education,the Emerging Agricultural Education,New College of Medicine,and New Liberal Arts,exemplify China's forward-thinking strategy for the advancement of higher education in the contemporary era.English language courses are a compulsory component of the curriculum for non-English major postgraduate students,fulfilling a pivotal role in the development of their English language proficiency,as well as their professional and comprehensive growth.The paper posits that the English curriculum for postgraduate students should focus on nurturing proficiency in academic English,thereby providing robust support for graduate education within the framework of the"Four New"initiatives.The paper conducts an analysis of the misalignment between the existing English curriculum for postgraduate students and the demands of the"Four New"initiatives.It proposes that the reform of the English curriculum for postgraduate students be guided by Constructivism Theory.Finally,it delineates a series of reformative strategies,and evaluates their potential efficacy in addressing the identified discrepancies.
