High-quality development is an inevitable requirement for adapting to the principal contradiction in Chinese society in the new era,and it is also the absolute truth for economic and social development.Under this necessary requirement and absolute truth,the transformation and upgrading process of Chinese potato industry has experienced some new characteristics,including differentiation in production scale,conversion in development mode towards quality-oriented growth,continuous relocation of potato planting from North area to the South,gradual reduction in seasonal fluctuations of market supply,highly volatile fluctuation in price,more prominent advantages in international trade,and a shift from direct consumption to processing.However,there are also challenges such as tighter resource and environmental constraints,slower technological contributions,rising production costs,and sluggish potato consumption growth,which will differently restricted the future trends to high-quality development in the potato industry.It was predicted that in the medium to short term,the development of Chinese potato industry would show trends of basic stable scale,further weakening of seasonal market fluctuations,and gradually highlight the processing orientation of industrial development.To promote the high-quality development of potato industry,it is necessary to improve the industrial innovative development by increasing potato scientific research input,to improve the industrial coordinated development by developing produce processing industry which adopting an all-encompassing approach to food,to improve the industrial green development by expanding the environmental suitability production mode,to improve the industrial stable development by strengthening guidance from the industry management.
