Impact of Aging Rural Population on Agricultural Products Trade
As the aging population in rural areas deepens, the demographic dividend tends to disappear, which deeply affects agricultural production and agricultural products trade.Based on the panel data from 31 provinces(autonomous regions, municipalities)in China from 2014 to 2021,this study clarified the mechanism of the interaction between rural population aging and agricultural products trade,by using a systematic GMM model, empirically test the impact of rural population aging on agricultural products trade. The results indicated that the aging of rural population is not conducive to the development of agricultural products trade, for every unit of deepening of rural population aging, agricultural products trade will decrease by 0.373 units, after conducting multiple robustness tests, this conclusion still holds;the aging of rural population has significant regional heterogeneity in agricultural products trade, the aging of rural population has the greatest negative effect on agricultural products trade in the central region, followed by the western region, and has the smallest impact on agricultural products trade in the eastern region.Based on this, suggestions to improve the competitiveness of China's agricultural products market and promote the development of agricultural products trade were put forward from accelerating technological innovation and research and development, and reasonably responding to the aging population in rural areas;improving the competitiveness of agricultural products markets and promoting agricultural products trade;strengthening communication and cooperation between regions,as well as regional coordinated development.
