Analysis of the Vegetable Market Situation in Beijing in 2023 and Its Outlook for 2024
In 2023,with the disappearance of COVID-19 pandemic and the resumption of normal vegetable production and circulation,the production and supply of vegetables in the Beijing vegetable market were better than last year,and prices fell year-on-year,while remained high level with the second highest in history.In addition,vegetable prices in 2023 generally followed the seasonal fluctuation pattern throughout the year,but there are also periodic abnormal situations.For example,in June and August,when prices were supposed to be low,there was a rapid increase in stages.At the same time,in November,there was a situation of low prices,and some vegetables even experienced unsold.This article analyzed the annual price changes of leafy vegetables,eggplant fruit vegetables,and storage resistant vegetables in Beijing,and pointed out that the prices of leafy vegetables are greatly affected by extreme weather factors,eggplant fruit vegetables are greatly affected by cold waves and snowfall weather,and storage resistant vegetables are greatly affected by the supply and demand situation;at the same time,a specific analysis of the prices of three typical varieties including Chinese cabbage,prickly cucumber,and ginger was made.Based on this,three issues have been identified:lower than expected vegetable prices,intensified price fluctuations,and prominent structural supply-demand contradictions,and it was suggested to address these issues from three aspects:monitoring and early warning,guiding industrial development,and developing facility vegetables.
