MECHANISM AND EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF THE DEGREE OF PART-TIME FARMING ON AGRICULTURAL INSURANCE PREFERENCES
With the deepening of agricultural structural adjustments, the sources of farmers'income have gradually diversified.By studying the impact of farmers'degree of part-time production on their preferences for different types of agricultural insurance, this research aims to provide a basis and references for targeted promotion of agricultural insurance.Based on survey data from 732 farmers in the main grain-producing areas of Hubei,Hunan, and Henan provinces, this study used the Logit model and multinomial Logit model to analyze the influence of farmers'degree of part-time production on insurance preferences, and discussed the moderating effect of planting scale in the share of farm income and the choice of insurance types, then conducted a Heterogeneity analysis by categorizing farmers into different types of diversified farming farmers based on the presence of fixed non-agricultural employment. The results were showed as follows.(1)Farmers with a high proportion of agricultural income preferred traditional physical cost insurance, while farmers with a low proportion of agricultural income preferred new index insurance.(2)Under the same degree of part-time production,large-scale farmers were more willing to insure costs and production compared to small-scale farmers.(3)There were differences in insurance preferences among different types of diversified farming farmers, with those having fixed non-agricultural employment being more inclined to choose new index insurance compared to those without fixed employment. Therefore,it is necessary to promote traditional agricultural insurance among farmers with a high proportion of agricultural income, large planting scale, and no fixed non-agricultural income. For farmers with a low proportion of agricultural income, small planting scale, and fixed non-agricultural income, promoting new index insurance is recommended.
