FACTORS AND PATHWAYS INFLUENCING FARMERS'COMPREHENSIVE UTILIZATION BEHAVIOR OF STAW——TAKING HUANGGANG CITY,HUBEI PROVINCE AS AN EXAMPLE
The comprehensive utilization of straw plays a crucial role in achieving a win-win scenario for ecological environmental protection and increasing the production and income of farmers. Clarifying the factors influencing comprehensive straw utilization and pathways of comprehensive straw utilization can offer valuable insights for improving the mechanisms of green and high-quality agricultural development. This study utilized survey data that included 786 households from four key counties with comprehensive straw utilization in Hubei province, and a theoretical model was constructed to analyze households' behavioral responses to comprehensive straw utilization, then the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling was employed to empirically examine the factors and pathways influencing households' behavior regarding comprehensive straw utilization. Additionally,it delved into the impact of different household capital endowments on this behavior. The results showed that:(1) Individual, regional, and cultural forces had a significant and positive effect on the perceived value of comprehensive straw utilization. (2) The perceived value significantly and positively influenced households' willingness to utilize straw comprehensively. (3) Regional forces and willingness to utilize straw comprehensively had significant and positive effects on households' straw utilization behavior. (4) These influencing mechanisms showed heterogeneity, depending on households' ownership of the agricultural machinery used for straw processing and the level of annual household income. Therefore, there is a need to enhance the risk perception of new technology in comprehensive straw utilization. Additionally, broadening households' information channels, improving satisfaction with straw-related policies, and exploring differentiated eco-compensation policies are important for promoting comprehensive straw utilization.
