STUDY ON AGRICULTURAL WATER FOOTPRINT AND ITS ECONOMIC VALUE IN HENAN PROVINCE
Agricultural water accounts for a significant proportion of total water consumption.Quantifying the regional crop water footprint and its economic value can provide a basis for effective utilization of water resources.Based on the water footprint theory, this paper calculated the water footprint of crop production and consumption in Henan province, evaluated its economic benefits, and analyzed the virtual water output of agricultural water footprint by using the meteorological and agricultural economic statistics data from 2010 to 2020,and the software model CROPWAT 8.0.The results were listed as follows.(1) Crop production water footprint decreased by 88.8 billion m3 during 2010 to 2020,while the water footprint of consumption increased by 14.71%.(2) The economic value produced by different crops differed greatly. The economic value of the consumption water footprint of cash crops such as vegetables was 3.55 times that of wheat and other food crops;(3) The net virtual water output of grain crops in Henan province was large.Rice, wheat and corn were the virtual water net output crops with large output, with the output size of 0.95 billion m3,19.89 billion m3 and 3.83 billion m3,respectively.Legumes,oils and vegetables were the virtual water net input crops, and the net input amounts were 0.75 billion m3,0.25 billion m3 and 0.73 billion m3,respectively.The results reveal the water consumption of crops and its economic value, and it proposes that dynamic attention should be paid to consumption water footprint management, appropriate adjustment of crop planting structure, and reduction of virtual water output,so as to provide a reference for optimizing agricultural water resources management.
