RESEARCH ON THE VALUE EVALUATION OF BOHAI BLACK CATTLE GENETIC RESOURCES BASED ON THE CHOICE EXPERIMENT METHOD
As China faces increasingly severe challenges in protecting local breeds of livestock and poultry genetic resources, enhancing the assessment of the value of these genetic resources has become urgently necessary.Developing a framework for assessing the value of cattle genetic resources,so as to provide theoretical support for the conservation and utilization of local cattle breeds in China. This study took the Bohai Black cattle as a case, employed a choice experiment method, and divided the value of genetic resources into four attributes, then used the Mixed logit model to empirically measure respondents'preferences and willingness to pay for the value attributes of Bohai Black cattle. The results revealed that respondents had a strong awareness of the importance of genetic resources and local breeds, with a high willingness to actively participate in breed conservation and utilization.Preferences for the value attributes of Bohai Black cattle genetic resources were significant, with conservation value ranking highest, followed by direct and indirect use values, and potential use value being the least. The total genetic resource value of Bohai Black cattle was estimated at 526.07 yuan, with conservation value accounting for 360.17 yuan. The respondents'age and per capita household income had a significant impact on the evaluation results. Therefore,it is recommended to establish a genetic resources value assessment system suited to China's national conditions, enhance the dissemination of policies related to the conservation and utilization of cattle genetic resources, increase fiscal funding, and accelerate the improvement process of local cattle breeds.
