How can East-West industrial collaboration be effective:A case study of the collaboration in the thorn pear industry between Guangzhou and Guizhou
East-West industrial collaboration is a crucial element of China's modernization, aimed at promoting common prosperity and regional coordinated development. This paper uses the collaboration in the thorn pear industry between Guangzhou and Guizhou as a case study, employing in-depth interviews and participatory observation to analyze the effective practices and institutional foundations of East-West industrial collaboration. The research shows that the economic development of Western regions faces a shortage of modern production factors, and the East-West collaboration mechanism precisely addresses these deficiencies. It not only accelerates the aggregation of factors through specialized operations but also transcends market behavior boundaries to construct a more multidimensional cooperation framework that integrates political, economic, and other interests. This framework fosters a win-win situation characterized by fairness and reciprocity. However, solidifying this collaboration model requires a scientific evaluation mechanism,a reasonable benefit distribution system, and high market management capabilities from Eastern market participants. Therefore, the key to the success of East-West industrial collaboration lies in the careful selection of specific cooperation areas and participants,as well as the precision and refinement of institutional design, ensuring efficient operation and sustainable development for both parties.
