Influence of international cooperation network on scholars'research performance under the Great Power Game:Empirical evidence from the field of materials science
With the acceleration of the world integration process, the national innovation system has also begun to move towards the direction of internationalization. However,in the context of great power game, geopolitics began to shift to the era of science and technology politics. Based on the researcher-document-year cooperation network data from 2012 to 2021,this paper analyzes the structure of the international research cooperation network of Chinese scholars in the field of materials science by using the bibliometric method and social network analysis methods, and empirically tests the influence of the breadth, depth and intensity of the international cooperation network on the research performance of Chinese scholars in the field of materials science. The differences of the influence of the relationship capital of Chinese scholars, the multi-dimensional proximity of the partners and the quality of the results of international research cooperation on research performance are discussed. This paper finds that the international cooperation network has an inverted U-shaped effect on the research performance of Chinese scholars, that is,it first promotes and then inhibits;Compared with the strong relationship, the international cooperation network composed of the weak relationship has a more obvious effect on the research performance of scholars. Cooperation with scholars from powerful countries is conducive to improving research performance. However, the expansion of the international scientific research cooperation network circle has a negative impact on the publication of papers and top journals in the first region, and in-depth international cooperation and small-scope and multi-frequency cooperation can better improve scientific research performance, which also implies that Chinese scholars should establish full confidence in scientific research and carry out independent innovation in advanced core science and technology fields.
