The Double-edged Sword Effect of Performance Pressure on Thriving at Work:The Role of Work Rumination and Perceived Organizational Support
Thriving at work has been a research topic that has received attention from both the industry and academia in recent years.Previous studies have found a correlation between different types of stress and thriving at work, but have not given sufficient attention to differences between individuals who thrive at work under pressure. We propose a double-edged sword effect of performance pressure on thriving at work based on resource conservation theory, and emphasize the key role of perceived organizational support in this process. This study used empirical sampling method(ESM)to conduct a detailed analysis of 410 valid observation data from 82 new generation employees for 5 consecutive working days. The results indicate that performance pressure induces affective rumination among employees, thereby reducing thriving at work.It also stimulates problem-solving pondering among employees, thereby enhancing thriving at work.Perceived organizational support weakens the negative impact of affective rumination on thriving at work, while enhancing the positive impact of problem-solving pondering on thriving at work.
