The Use of Internet and Employment Quility:A Dual Perspective on Online and Offline Social Capital
With the development of internet technology and the rise of social media, workers'social capital is continuously reshaped in both online and offline forms, potentially impacting their employment quality. This paper aims to explore the impact of the use of internet on workers'employment quality.Based on the online social capital theory and the theoretical framework of bonding social capital and bridging social capital, this study posits that internet use will simultaneously promote"online-bonding","online-bridging","offline-bonding",and"offline-bridging"social capital, thereby enhancing workers'employment quality. To test the above theoretical hypotheses, the study utilized data from the 2017 China General Social Survey and employed a multiple regression analysis method to verify the mechanism through which internet use affects workers'employment quality. The results show that the frequency of internet use has a significant positive impact on workers'employment stability, labor income, and social insurance level. There are significant heterogeneities in terms of education level, household registration type, and income level.Online social capital and offline social capital play a mediating role in the relationship between internet use frequency and employment quality. This paper provides valuable insights for formulating precise policies to promote high-quality employment in the context of new formats and models in the digital era.
