The Effect of Occupational Self-efficacy on Employability:A Signaling Theory Perspective
Previous studies show that the relationship between occupational self-efficacy and employability is not clear.Aiming at addressing this limitation, this study draws on the signaling theory to investigate the association between occupational self-efficacy and employability by exploring the mediating role of personal brand equity and the moderating role of grit.We used a time-lagged research design, collecting data from 679 state-owned enterprise employees. The findings indicate that personal brand equity mediates the positive relationship between occupational self-efficacy and employability. In addition, grit positively moderates the effect of occupational self-efficacy on personal brand equity,as well as the indirect relationship between occupational self-efficacy and employability via personal brand equity. The current research theoretically enriches the application of signaling theory in employability research and clarifies the mechanism of the influence of occupational self-efficacy on employability.Meanwhile, the findings provide practical guidance for employees to build personal brand equity and improve employability.
