In vitro properties of two probiotics and their effects on blood glucose in diabetic rats
To screen probiotics with hypoglycemic effect, the probiotic properties of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HOM3201 and Bifidobacterium ani-malis subsp.lactis HOM1119 and their effects on indexes such as blood glucose level in diabetic rats were studied in this paper. The tolerance of simulated gastrointestinal fluid, the capacity of acid production, the ability of inhibiting pathogenic bacteria, the antioxidant activity, the inhibitory activity of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 and α-glucosidase and the capacity of promoting the secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1 by NCI-H716 cells were determined in vitro. The effects on alleviating diabetes in rats were evaluated by using an insulin resistance glucose/lipid metabolism disorder rat model. The results showed that HOM3201 and HOM1119 strains:tolerated simulated gastric and intestinal juices(survival rate>95%),produced high contents of lactic acid and acetic acid, significantly inhibited the growths of five foodborne pathogens, scavenged free radicals, the inhibition rates of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 and α-glucosidase and the capacity of promoting the secretion level of glucagon-like peptide-1 of NCI-H716 cells were significantly higher than those of the control strain GG(P<0.05).After 41 days of oral administration, the fasting blood glucose val-ues of model group,HOM3201 and HOM1119 were 8.3,7.9 and 8.0,respectively,indicating that both HOM3201 and HOM1119 strains could significantly reduce the fasting blood glucose levels in diabetic model rats(P<0.05).
