Epidemiological investigation and analysis of brucellosis in livestock in Dali
This study was aimed at understanding and controlling the epidemic of brucellosis in domestic animals in Dali,Yunnan Province,by detecting antibodies to brucellosis in cattle and sheep.Four methods—animal Brucella competitive ELISA(cELISA),bovine Brucella indirect ELISA(iELISA),sheep Brucella indirect ELISA(iELISA),and Brucella fluo-rescence polarization assay(FPA)—were used to detect 18 640 livestock serum samples from 12 counties(cities)in Dali Pre-fecture in 2022.Among them,7 813 cattle serum samples and 10 827 sheep serum samples were tested. Finally, the micro complement fixation test(mCFT)was used to confirm samples determined to be positive by cELISA,iELISA,and FPA.A to-tal of 189 sheep sera were confirmed positive by mCFT in Dali City, with a positivity rate of 1.75%(189/10 827),including 1.90%(2/105)in Dali City,4.23%(34/803)in Binchuan County,2.53%(19/752)in Xiangyun County,1.58%(12/760)in Weishan County,2.52%(22/873)in Eryuan County,2.00%(91/4554)in Jianchuan County, and 1.54%(9/585)in Yunlong County. The positivity rate of cattle serum brucellosis antibodies was 0.When mCFT was used to confirm samples detected tb positive by cELISA,iELISA,and FPA,the coinci-dence rates with the mCFT results were 75%,100%,and 98.81%,respectively.iELISA had the highest coincidence rate with mCFT.No Brucella antibodies were detected in any sam-ples from the cattle herd in Dali, thus indicating a low risk of infection. The Brucella infection rate in sheep is high, and posi-tive samples for sheep brucellosis were detected in 7 of 12 counties(cities). The distribution map of sheep brucellosis in Dali Prefecture provides basic data and technical support for effective prevention, control, and treatment of livestock brucellosis in the future.
