Influence of Disbudding Analgesia on Calf Daily Weight Gain After Weaning
[Objective]Calf disbudding has become a necessary operation process in modern dairy farming systems, but disbudding can cause severe pain and stress in calves, manifested as intense struggle, head shaking, ear swinging, decreased feed intake, and can also induce the secretion of inflammatory mediators which may affect their future growth, development and milk production.[Method]In this experiment, meloxicam injection is used for analgesia in calves during disbudding, and a blank control was set up to calculate the difference in daily weight gain after weaning.[Result]The experimental group(meloxicam group,984 g) had an average weaning daily weight gain increase of 51 g(P<0.01) compared to the control group(saline group,932 g).[Conclusion]The use of meloxicam for analgesia during disbudding in calves is beneficial for increasing daily weight gain after weaning.
