The Effects of Workplace Fun on Time Encroachment Behavior:The Mediating Role of Emotional Exhaustion
Workplace fun contributes to creating a relaxed work atmosphere and provides employees with various enjoyable experiences.Existing research has primarily focused on the positive effects of workplace fun,lacking an analysis of its negative impact.This paper,through two empirical studies,uses 184 and 200 data sets to examine the relationship between workplace fun,emotional exhaustion,and time banditry behavior.Both studies find out a significant positive correlation between emotional exhaustion and time encroachment behavior and emotional exhaustion mediates the relationship between workplace fun and time encroachment behavior.However,the difference lies in the study No.one,which finds out a significant positive correlation between workplace fun and emotional exhaustion as well as time encroachment behavior,while the study No.two finds out a significant negative correlation between workplace fun and these two variables.We provide discussion of these contrast findings mentioned above on three aspects:the method of obtaining samples,the potential existence of curvilinear relationships between variables,and the potential presence of moderator variables.We also offer corresponding management strategies.For organizations,they should emphasize the negative impact of workplace fun,the cultivation of a balanced organizational culture,and the monitoring of time encroachment behavior.For employees,it is important to stress the understanding of corporate systems,increasing work engagement to reduce emotional exhaustion,and actively integrating into the work environment,and willingly participating in fun activities.
