The grounds for disciplining judges in China are narrowly defined, effectively limiting the accountability for wrongful judgments. However, there are issues such as the need for further clarification of the grounds for discipline, internal conflicts in the provisions of the Judges Law,vague exclusion of implicit grounds for discipline, and a lack of distinction between disciplinary grounds and administrative sanctions, leading to imbalanced disciplinary results and confusion of responsibilities. Therefore, there is a need for a systematic reconstruction of the grounds for disciplining judges emphasizing the protective function of the disciplinary system and holding individuals accountable for wrongful judgments. This involves adjusting the specific content of the grounds for discipline, setting short-term goals, and establishing inappropriate behavior standards as long-term goals. It also requires distinguishing the severity of disciplinary grounds, introducing appropriate rigid standards, and establishing a system for guiding disciplinary cases to ensure a balance between the grounds for discipline and the punitive measures.
