Echoes of History:An Analysis on the Formation,Development, and Dissolution of the Japanese Red Army
The Japanese Red Army emerged from the new Left movement in Japan during the late 1960s.The organization was formed and developed in the Arab region, and was associated with the Palestinian National Liberation Movement.Due to its suspected involvement in a series of violent incidents such as hijacking, the international community regarded it as a terrorist organization.Since the mid-1970s,the Japanese Red Army attempted to transform itself into a political party in order to return to Japan, but it was unsuccessful. In 2001,the Japanese Red Army announced its dissolution, and its leader Fusako Shigenobu was not released from prison until 2022.On the surface, the Japanese Red Army no longer poses a fundamental impact on Japanese politics and society. However, given that the group still has committed members and supporters,as well as undercurrents within Japanese society, the potential for it to have an impact on Japanese politics and society remains.
