Research and application progress of short chain fatty acids in aquaculture
Short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs),also known as volatile fatty acids, are beneficial metabolites produced by intestinal flora through the fermentation of dietary fiber. In animals,SCFAs can provide energy for the body, promote gastrointestinal function, regulate immune function, and adjust the balance of intestinal flora. However, there are few researches and applications in aquatic products. This article reviewed the application of SCFAs as an effective feed additive in aquaculture,as well as its effects on growth reduction, intestinal inflammation, and metabolic dysfunction caused by high carbohydrate and fat levels.
