Effects of silk orchid extract on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, and antioxidant capacity of fattening pigs
This experiment aims to investigate the effects of Yucca Shidigero Extract(YSE)on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, and antioxidant capacity of fattening pigs.Select 150 Duroc fattening pigs with an initial weight of(32.16±1.54)kg and good physical condition, and randomly divide them into 3 groups, with 5 replicates in each group, with 10 pigs in each replicate(half male and half female).Among them, the control group referred to the NRC(2012)basic diet for fattening pigs, while the other two groups added 200 g/t(YSE200 group)and 400 g/t(YSE400 group)of yucca extract to the basic diet, respectively. The experimental period is 45 days. The results showed that:(1)Compared with the control group, the YSE200 and YSE400 groups significantly increased the final weight of finishing pigs by 3.36%and 3.71%(P<0.05),and the average daily weight gain significantly increased by 7.35%and 8.82%(P<0.05).The feed to weight ratio significantly decreased by 6.07%and 6.39%(P<0.05).(2)Compared with the control group, the YSE200 and YSE400 groups significantly increased their dry matter digestibility by 5.40%and 5.43%(P<0.05),crude protein digestibility by 4.89%and 5.77%(P<0.05),and crude fat digestibility by 5.14%and 5.58%(P<0.05).(3)Compared with the control group, the YSE200 and YSE400 groups significantly increased the total antioxidant capacity of serum by 23.01%and 27.05%(P<0.05),and the serum malondialdehyde content significantly decreased by 26.40%and 27.66%(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the YSE400 group significantly increased the serum catalase activity of fattening pigs by 23.22%(P<0.05).Conclusion:Adding silk orchid extract to the basic diet can improve the growth performance, nutrient digestibility, and antioxidant capacity of fattening pigs. The best effect is achieved when the addition level of silk orchid extract is 400 g/t.
