Effects of sodium butyrate and oregano oil on growth performance, intestinal flora and histomorphological structure of weaned piglets
To investigate the effects of sodium butyrate, oregano oil and their combination on growth performance, intestinal flora and histomorphological structure of weaned piglets,200 weaned"Duroc×Landrace×large"hybrid piglets(male castrated, male to female ratio 1:1)aged(28±2)days and weighing(8.03±0.5)kg were selected as experimental animals and randomly divided into 5 treatment groups:Control group A was fed basic diet.Control group B(antibiotic group:Base diet 1000kg+15%aureomycin 500 g+ bacitracin zinc 250 g),test group C(base diet 1000kg+2 kg sodium butyrate),test group D(base diet 1000 kg+1 kg oregano oil),test group E(base diet 1000 kg+1 kg sodium butyrate +0.5 kg oregano oil). The pre-test period was 7 days and the experimental period was 28 days. The results showed that supplementation of sodium butyrate and oregano oil in the basal diet significantly increased daily gain, daily feed intake, villus height of jejunum and ileum(P<0.05),and the number of lactobacilli in cecum and ileum and VH/CD value of weaned piglets(P<0.05).Crypt depth, feed to meat ratio, cecal and ileum Escherichia coli population number were significantly decreased(P<0.05).In conclusion, sodium butyrate, oregano oil and their combined use can regulate the balance of intestinal flora, improve intestinal health, and significantly improve the growth performance of weaned piglets.
