Research progress of antimicrobial peptides in regulating animal intestinal health
Gut health is related to the overall health and production performance of livestock and poultry. It is essential to reduce costs and increase efficiency and improve feed returns.Antimicrobial peptides, acidifiers and plant essential oils have begun to play an increasingly important role in the field of animal husbandry by the implementation of the national policy of prohibiting and reducing antibiotics.Antimicrobial peptides are bioactive peptides produced by animals and plants themselves, have various biological functions such as antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant and immune regulation. In recent years, research on antimicrobial peptides to modulate animal gut health is also increasingly widespread. This paper mainly summarized the latest research on the regulation of animal intestinal health by antimicrobial peptides at home and abroad. The mechanism of antimicrobial peptides to improve intestinal health was systematically expounded from the aspects of antimicrobial peptides regulating intestinal inflammatory damage, microflora composition, morphological structure, digestion and absorption, immune barrier, etc.,to provide reference for the application of antimicrobial peptides in animal husbandry to reduce or replace antibiotics, reduce cost and increase efficiency.
