Effects of complex enzyme preparations on the growth and development of donkey foals and the digestion and metabolism of nutrients during lactation
The purpose of this experiment was to explore the effects of complex enzyme preparations on the growth and development of donkey foals, digestion and metabolism of nutrients, and to provide a reference for the study of early gastrointestinal function, intestinal health and nutritional requirements of nursing donkeys.Ten healthy 2-month-old lactating female donkey foals with similar birth date and weight[(45.22± 7.32)kg]were selected. The foals were randomly divided into a control group and a test group of 5 foals each.Under the same feeding and management conditions, the foals were free to nurse, free to feed on corn straw and alfalfa, and supplemented with concentrate. The foals in the experimental group were supplemented with enzyme complexes(xylanase 15000 U/g,β-mannanase 400 U/g,β-glucanase 10000 U/g,cellulase 2000 U/g,protease 1000 U/g,amylase 300000 U/g)on top of those in the control group at a supplemental rate of 6.5 mg/(kgBW·d).The supplemental feeding and nutrient digestion and metabolism tests were carried out for 60 days. The results showed that there was no significant change in body weight and body size of donkey foals, and the total growth of body slope length and tube circumference of donkey foals in the test group increased by 26.02%and 2.17%,respectively,compared with the control group(P>0.05);the intake of dry matter, organic matter, acidic detergent fiber, calcium, phosphorus and energy of donkey foals in the test group increased by 2.99%,3.14%,6.67%,2.07%,1.11%and 2.81%(P>0.05);energy intake, fecal energy, deposited energy, nitrogen intake, fecal nitrogen, deposited nitrogen, nitrogen metabolic rate, calcium intake, fecal calcium, deposited calcium, calcium metabolic rate, phosphorus intake, deposited phosphorus and phosphorus metabolic rate of donkey foals in the test group were increased by 2.81%,13.03%,4.46%,1.65%,10.09%,21.49%,19.54%,2.07%,3.47%,4.59%,2.32%,1.11%,39.06%and 40.77%,and urinary energy, urinary nitrogen, urinary calcium, fecal phosphorus and urinary phosphorus were reduced by 78.10%,20.19%,33.33%,4.35%and 9.81%,respectively,compared with the control group, with no significant difference(P>0.05).In conclusion, supplemental feeding of enzymes to donkey foals under the conditions of this study promoted the growth of body slope length and tube circumference, and there was a trend towards higher nutrient intake and metabolic rate, but none of the effects were significant.
