The effect of adding Eucommia ulmoides leaf powder to the diet on the growth performance, serum antioxidant index, and immune function of weaned piglets
The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of adding Eucommia ulmoides leaf powder to the diet on the growth performance, serum antioxidant indicators, and immune function of weaned piglets.320-24 day old weaned piglets with similar body weight[(6.71±0.15)kg]and good physical condition were selected and randomly divided into 4 groups, with 8 replicates in each group, with 10 piglets per replicate.Add 300,600,and 900 mg/kg of Eucommia ulmoides leaf extract to the basic diet as the experimental feed. The experiment lasted for a total of 41 days(including 6 days of pre test and 35 days of trial). The experimental results showed that with the increase of Eucommia ulmoides leaf powder addition, the average daily gain and final body weight of weaned piglets significantly increased, while the feed to weight ratio significantly decreased(P<0.05);The growth performance of the treatment groups with an addition of 600 and 900 mg/kg was the best, significantly superior to the 0 and 300 mg/kg groups; In addition, the addition of Eucommia ulmoides leaf powder to the diet had no significant effect on the average daily feed intake of weaned piglets(P>0.05).The addition of Eucommia ulmoides leaf powder to the diet did not significantly affect the liver index, kidney index, spleen index, and inguinal lymph node index of weaned piglets(P>0.05).The addition of 600 and 900 mg/kg Eucommia ulmoides leaf powder to the diet significantly increased the levels of serum immunoglobulin IgA,IgM,and IgG in weaned piglets(P<0.05);The addition of 600 and 900 mg/kg Eucommia ulmoides leaf powder to the diet significantly increased the serum GPX activity of weaned piglets(P<0.05);The addition of Eucommia ulmoides leaf powder to the diet significantly increased the T-SOD and Cu Zn SOD activities in the serum of weaned piglets(P<0.05).In addition, the addition of Eucommia ulmoides leaf powder to the diet had no significant effect on the serum CAT activity of weaned piglets(P>0.05).In summary, the results of this experiment indicate that the optimal amount of Eucommia ulmoides leaf powder added to the diet for weaned piglets is 600 mg/kg.
