The effect of garlic straw feeding on weight gain and meat quality of meat sheep
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of adding garlic straw to the diet on weight gain and meat quality of meat sheep.120 healthy and growing Han miscellaneous male lambs with an average weight of 20.89±0.35 kg were randomly divided into 4 groups, with 5 replicates in each group and 6 in each replicate.Using 0,3%,6%,and 12%garlic straw instead of corn straw in the basic diet as the experimental diet, the experiment lasted for a total of 100 days, with a pre trial of 7 days and a trial of 93 days. The experimental results showed that adding 6%garlic straw to the diet significantly increased the average daily gain and final body weight of meat sheep(P<0.05);Adding 6%garlic straw to the diet significantly reduced the feed to weight ratio of meat sheep(P<0.05);Adding garlic straw to the diet had no significant effect on the average daily feed intake of meat sheep(P>0.05).Adding 6%garlic straw to the diet significantly increased the 24-hour pH and a * value of the longissimus dorsi muscle of meat sheep(P<0.05);Adding 6%and 12%garlic straw to the diet significantly reduced the L * value of the longissimus dorsi muscle in meat sheep(P<0.05);Adding 6%garlic straw to the diet significantly reduced the dripping loss of the longissimus dorsi muscle in meat sheep; The addition of garlic straw to the diet had no significant effect on the pH and b * values of the longissimus dorsi muscle of meat sheep at 45 minutes(P>0.05).In summary, under the conditions of this experiment, the optimal amount of garlic straw added to the diet of meat sheep is 6%.
