The pharmacological evaluation of dandelion extract combined with yeast culture on subclinical mastitis in dairy cows
This study aimed to evaluate the preventive and therapeutic effects of dandelion extract compound with yeast culture on subclinical mastitis in dairy cows.Twenty-eight multiparous lactating cows, including 21 diagnosed with subclinical mastitis based on somatic cell count, were randomly assigned to three treatment groups(A,B and C).To ensure comparable somatic cell counts among subclinical mastitis cows in each group,Excel was used for randomization.Additionally, seven healthy cows served as a negative control group(Group D),with seven replicates per group, each consisting of one cow.The experiment, conducted over an 11-day period, involved adding dandelion extract to the basic TMR diet at 40 g/(d·cow)for group A and a combination of 40 g dandelion extract with 150 g yeast culture per day per cow for group B.groups C and D were fed the basic TMR diet.Milk and blood samples were collected on days 0,6 and 11 to analyze somatic cell count, blood routine, and milk quality-related indicators.Simultaneously, milk yield per cow was recorded. The results showed that,on the 6th day, compared to the positive control group C,both dandelion extract and the combination significantly reduced somatic cell counts by 63.2%and 40.1%,respectively.By the 11th day, reductions reached 68.0%and 79.85%,with statistical significance(P<0.05)compared to group C.Milk fat content showed no significant differences among groups on days 0 and 6.On the 11th day, while group A did not show a significant difference, group B demonstrated a 25%increase in milk fat content, indicating a rising trend(0.05<P<0.1).Both A and B groups exhibited an increasing trend compared to the negative control group D(P<0.1),with group B reaching statistical significance(P<0.05).In conclusion, the results indicated that the addition of dandelion extract and its combination with yeast culture effectively reduces somatic cell counts, demonstrating significant therapeutic effects on subclinical mastitis. Moreover, the combination enhances milk fat content.Neither dandelion extract nor its combination with yeast culture significantly affected milk yield or blood routine parameters.
