Research progress of Clostridium butyricum in aquaculture
Clostridium butyricum is a Gram-positive,rod-shaped,spore-forming,strictly anaerobic bacterium.It can produce short-chain fatty acids and precursors of biomaterials(such as hydrogen,butanol and 1,3-propanediol)during the fermentation of carbohydrates and sugars,which has potential application value.In humans and animals,it has been proven to have a probiotic effect.In aquatic animals,Clostridium butyricum also has broad prospects as a probiotic.This article reviewed the isolation,identification,safety and mechanism of action of Clostridium butyricum in aquatic animals,and also summarized the role of Clostridium butyricum in improving the growth performance,digestibility,survival rate,immune response,disease resistance and intestinal structure of aquatic animals,as well as regulating the intestinal commensal flora and metabolism,in order to provide reference for better application of Clostridium butyricum in aquaculture.
