Recent advances in the modulation of intestinal microbiota by montmorillonite
Montmorillonite,a versatile aluminosilicate clay, has the ability to eliminate mycotoxins, heavy metals, and bacteria from the intestinal tracts of both livestock and cultured animals, employing mechanisms such as surface adsorption, electrostatic adsorption, and intermolecular forces.Consequently,it has found extensive application in the feed industry. The intestinal microbiota plays a crucial role in facilitating the host's physiological functions, such as growth and development, nutrient absorption, and immune response. Therefore, this paper meticulously examined the impact of montmorillonite on the intestinal microbiota in the context of its application in humans, mice, livestock, and aquatic animals. The objective was to establish a theoretical foundation for montmorillonite's regulation of the intestinal microbiota, thereby enhancing host physiological function and promoting healthy breeding practices.
